What a great quote from O, Brother Where Art Thou.
Due to the fact that a good friend of mine, Raymond Hobbs, I've decided to write here again. And yet again, I will call it as I see it. So come on in, take a look through a person's life--his struggles, victories, pain, joy, questions, revelations, passion, love.
I will admit, the majority of my entries were probably written when my soul was crying out and needed to be released. I did not keep a personal journal until lately, so my writings may change. I will be more guarded with what I share, but you better believe I will call it as I see it.
Come on in boys, the water's fine. Hmm...what a good quote.
Imagine if you can, if you will--imagine a people poverty stricken with no view. They know all the rappers, movie stars, political offices, sports stars, but do they even know the names of the firemen or policemen that fight to save their personal lives day in and day out? Do they know the name of soldiers who fight overseas? This baffles me. The majority of people recognize and support men who have no direct influence over them other than to put on a show and entertain versus someone who fights to save their life.
In today's society, it is all about the self. Self gain. I want money so I can live comfortably and do as I please, I want to be relaxed and entertained, I want to eat as much as I want when I am hungry or distressed, I want to be important, I want to have people work under me so I feel powerful and so that I don't have to do manual labor, I want the benefits of a man or I want the benefits of a woman. Ultimately, the self wants to be as comfortable as possible with life as easy as possible.
Wrong, try again. See the problem with people today, is the same problem with people since the beginning. It hasn't changed and it never will. So I will make a profound statement--stop trying to help yourself by yourself. I guarantee you it hasn't worked, mainly because it never has in the past. Start looking for someone to help you. Even being truly thankful for your local firefighters, policemen, and soldiers is a start.
I must admit that I do not know the names of my local support, but I do know the name of someone greater. I call Him the great Helper. Why? Well His name is God and He did create the world and He does know about everything He creates. So why shouldn't I turn to Him for help? I obviously can't help myself, I've tried and still try at times--it never works. But when I submit to God and trust in Him and obey His Word, it is a freedom you will never find elsewhere. Your view on life changes. You will find wisdom and understanding to life. Now you won't understand everything, because you are not God, but you will find peace. This peace comes from Jesus Christ who Was during the creation (John 1:1-18) and became flesh so that we men may have a personal relationship with our Creator.
Now life submitted to Jesus and the will of God is not easy. It is against our human flesh and the desire of Satan. Plus we are a rebellious child and need reprimanding so that we may learn and become more holy like our God. There is a real fight. But one thing I can tell you with confidence is that Jesus Christ has already conquered sin by becoming a sacrifice for us and rising from the grave in three days. Though the battle is fierce, there is hope because one day soon our Lord Jesus will come back.
So I ask you this--Is your hope in yourself? Is your hope in the world? Has it helped? Could you put your hope in Jesus Christ and submit to the will of God?
I have made my decision by the grace of God.
Jesus once said, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4: 13-14)
Come on in boys, the water's fine.
