So, went canoeing and kayaking the other day. Not much experience in either. Nor my brother Andrew Smith. Well we decided we'd go down the grade 2-3 rapids in a canoe. Needless to say we struggled to get the canoe to do anything we actually wanted it to do. The first rapid wasn't too bad. I was attempting to steer from the back...we sunk it. We made it through the first fall alright, but the one right after it, we approached side ways and we leaned (we were sitting instead of on our knees like our guide, Erich Albert, advised us) and we sunk. I got stuck in a bungee cord that was holding our cooler down. All of the supplies were pretty much in the canoe. All that was lost though was my shirt and the bungee cord I released so that I could get unstuck. It was a blast though, and the water was freezing, though I wasn't focused at the time on how cold the water was as to not losing everything. I wish we had a video tape of the whole experience. Needless to say, Andrew took the back for the next two rapids. The next one we handled the first fall with ease, but when we attempted to pull to the side and get out of the rapids, we ended up going down the next set of rapids backwards...we got caught on a rock and we were teetering on this thing. It was a rush. Well we balanced well (we were on our knees) and the water rushed of off...and we were able to stop on the next set of rocks. Meanwhile, everyone else went down a different way, and forward. Another guy fell out of the kayak and of course it made Andrew and I feel good. We wouldn't have to hear constantly how we sank...a canoe! the pontoon boat of whitewater. If you don't know...if you are inexperienced, it's hard to manipulate a big pontoon boat in small waters were agility and speed are of essence. Anyway, Andrew and I ended up having to pick up our canoe and moving it over rocks so that we could get out of the rapids as the way we had headed had no exit. Took us a few tries to 'lign up and go down the next rapid, but we made it...and the last rapid was no problem.
What a blast.
Got to play the saxophone again...still got some skill. There are few things as freeing as playing music that matches your mood.
I have way too much free time here in Boiling Springs and it makes hard for discipline.
Of course I have to leave you with some things to ponder over..:
Proverbs 19:22
What a man desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar.
Proverbs 20:6
Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?
Proverbs is absolutely loaded. In order for me to write to you all that sticks out to me and all that I've learned, I would probably have to write a book. If you want some stuff to ponder...go read proverbs...listen and learn. You will discover fear in the Lord. Do it.
We desire most to have unfailing love. This is the driving factor of humans. It is clearly stated in Proverbs 19. Many claim to have found this unfailing love, perhaps through money, perhaps through fame, perhaps through a woman, perhaps they have even found it in the Lord. Even if they have unfailing love, who is faithful to this love? This is where fear of the Lord comes into play. Think about it. Blessed is the man who hears Christ, understands and believes, for He has found hope and he will be rewarded.
